    This new IMO model course is designed to provide up to date general security training for all port facility personnel in line with the latest IMO regulations.

    This model course is intended to provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP) to enhance security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code, the IMDG Code, the IMO/ILO Code of Practice on Security in Ports, and guidance contained in IMO MSC. 1/Circ 1341.


    Those who successfully complete this course should achieve the required standard of competence enabling them to contribute to the enhancement of maritime security through heightened awareness and the ability to recognise security threats and to respond appropriately. This knowledge shall include, but is not limited to:

    1. The meaning and consequential requirements of the different security levels.

    2. Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans.

    3. Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices.

    4. Recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security.

    5. Techniques used to circumvent security measures.
