IMO-Vega is an essential tool for anyone involved in shipping: shipowners and operators, shipbuilders, classification societies, casualty investigators, governments, insurers and underwriters, port authorities, surveyors and many others.

The IMO-Vega Database, developed jointly by IMO and Det Norske Veritas (DNV GL AS), puts all the necessary information at your fingertips. Given year of build, ship type, ship size, cargo, trade area and flag, IMO-Vega will quickly identify the requirements applicable to the ship in question.

Unlike other, similar products, IMO-Vega contains historical data including regulations which have been superseded. In the context of Port State Control, for example, access to the correct historical regulations is essential.

The IMO-Vega subscription includes up-to-date texts, with all amendments adopted up to October 2019, of the following IMO requirements:
    - 1974 SOLAS Convention, including 1978 and 1988 Protocols and all amendments
    - 1966 Load Lines Convention, including 1988 and 2003 Protocols
    - MARPOL 73/78, including all amendments
    - 1978 and 1995 STCW Convention and Code, with amendments
    - 1972 Collision Regulations
    - 1969 Tonnage Convention
    - 2004 Ballast Water Management Convention

    - International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC), 1990
    - OPRC-HNS Protocol 2000
    - Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, 2009

    IMO E-reader (EBK)

The IMO Bookshelf is a Windows-only software and MACs are not supported. Mac users will need to use a Windows emulator (e.g., Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop) to view the files.

This IMO digital publication (e-reader) is in EBK format for use on a single computer/laptop with Windows-based e-reader software, "The IMO Bookshelf". If you don't already have this software installed on your computer, it can be downloaded free of charge here:www.imo.org/en/Publications/Pages/Bookshelf.aspx. You may print 10% of the text (approx. a chapter) at a time from a single title with a maximum of 75 pages per day across all titles (not pdf).

The e-reader is registered to an email address, and you will need to confirm it. You can contact us directly at books@ms-sc.org. All e-readers are locked to a single computer. After your purchase, we will send you an email with login details to your IMO Virtual Publications account, where all your downloads will be available.

An important feature of the IMO Bookshelf e-reader software enables users to uninstall a license from one computer and reinstall it on another computer. Important: You must uninstall the license from the old computer before attempting to reinstall it on another machine! Please find step by step instructions here.

An IMO Publishing e-reader is fully bookmarked, indexed and presented in an ebk file format which is viewed using the free software "The IMO Bookshelf". The e-reader is a replica of the printed title. E-readers are available for major titles in English with some in French and Spanish.

    IMO E-book (PDF)

Electronic copies of older IMO publications are available as an e-book in PDF format.

After your purchase, we will send you an email with login details to your IMO Virtual Publications account, where all your downloads will be available. If you would like to use a different email address for the registration, please contact us directly at books@ms-sc.org.

From 1 January 2022, IMO will be moving to a new, hybrid version of the IMO Bookshelf, which will enable browser-based access to IMO publications.

Numerous advantages of the new version include:

    • No installation required

    • Access using multiple devices including tablets and MACs

    • Use online and offline

Support for the existing Windows-based version of the IMO Bookshelf will continue until 30 June 2023, but no new purchases in this format can be made after 1 January 2022. Users will be migrated to the new service, and all new IMO publications will be made available only on the new version of the IMO Bookshelf. Further details will be available on our online shop in due course.
